Human rights and the environment (2002)
by M. Pallemaerts and M. Déjeant-Pons

In order to provide a reference tool for human rights specialists, environmentalists and all those wishing to exercise individual or collective environmental rights, ECOSPHERE founding members Maguelonne Déjeant-Pons and Marc Pallemaerts have compiled a compendium of instruments and other international texts on individual and collective rights relating to the environment in the international and European framework, which brings together, for the first time, the most relevant international texts on human rights and the environment. These various instruments have established the existence of procedural rights such as access to information, public participation in decision-making, and access to justice in environmental matters. They also show the emergence of a substantive human right to a quality environment. This compendium was published in English and French by Council of Europe Publishing in Strasbourg, with the support of the Belgian Ministry of Environment, in 2002.
